The GoblinRAMPAGE is a traditional velomobile. The GoblinRAMPAGE velomobile is unlike traditional velomobiles in that it is based upon a radical laminar foil design that was developed with the help of Matt Weaver. Matt is famous for his proven radical thinking that has allowed him to exceed in the sport of streamlined recumbent racing. The racing vehicle that this machine is based upon is the Lunatic Fringe Streamliner. The first prototype will be built using the original fairing, resurrected from a fire caused by lightning a few years ago. The tadpole style vehicle will have a separate frame based upon an elongated standard recumbent tadpole tricycle. Its seat height will be raised for better visibility while commuting.

The target price will be $7295, using standard cycling components to help us to get close to our goal.

Traditional velomobiles have been around for years. They are a combination of recumbent bicycle or tricycle and a aerodynamic fairing to increase aerodynamic efficiency. Popular mostly in Europe, they typically only use human power (pedaling), are too low to the ground to be seen in traffic, cost way too much (around $14,000) and fit smaller riders (cyclist enthusiasts). At Goblin Motors, we really like velomobiles and design them to fit larger riders that demand more comfort and practicality.

The GoblinRAMPAGE is designed to fit larger, heavier drivers and is easy to get in and out of by hinging the entire top section to the side. It also offers overhead protection from the elements. Its ride height is similar to that of a car, making it more visible in traffic and easier to use.

The original fairing was called the Lunatic Fringe Streamliner and was built to race in the World Human Powered Speed Championships. In the 2003 event, I was honored to win the ‘Best Sportsman’ Award.
